Robobuilder

RoboBuilder is the new building block robot kit on the scene. Designed for robot enthusiasts and education alike RoboBuilder hits a sweet spot with feature packed kits at great prices. RoboBuilder focused on form as much as function creating a great looking robot at the same time. The 5720T kit even sports translucent plastic with multicolored internal LEDs. You could take this little guy to the rave with you on the weekends!

  • Compact design

Don’t let the streamlined good looks of RoboBuilder fool you. Beneath all that flash lurks plenty of substance. RoboBuilder is packed with advanced features not found on many of the other kits in the market such as; Precise PID Motion Control, Distance Detection, Sound Detection & Speaker System, IR remote control included, Bluetooth upgradeable, and Full-duplex drop-down UART serial communication on their smart actuators.

RoboBuilder is Quick!

Once the robot is built there are multiple easy to use software interfaces to play with; WCK Programmer, Motion Builder, Action Builder, & Diagnostics interface. RoboBuilder is ready to move as soon as he is assembled and using the software you can program your own humanoid motions in just 10 minutes.

With the included "Motion Builder" and "Action Builder" programming software, users can program their robot with both remote-controlled and autonomous behaviors. Motions can be created using the "pose and capture" method, wherein the user poses the robot manually, saves the servo positions, and strings together a sequence of poses and transitions to create a complete, fluid motion. Behaviors can be triggered by sensor values, or by commands from the included IR remote control.

Another exciting feature is the ability to trade motion files on the internet uploading your own and downloading others. Visit the RoboBuilder motion file trading area here.

A common complaint in robotics is that too much time is often spent building robots and not enough is spent enjoying them. Robot builders that are tired of keeping track of hundreds of tiny nuts and bolts will love RoboBuilder assembly system, which uses a simple yet impressively solid connection method to eliminate the need for most of the screws, brackets, and other hardware usually associated with kits of this kind.

The smart, serially controlled actuators provide valuable feedback data such as speed, position, and torque. Each actuator can be programmed with limits for each of these variables, and the PID control algorithms are fully customizable.

With a simple command, the actuators can be switched from angular control (servo) mode to continuous rotation (DC motor) mode, allowing you to drive joints and wheels with the same actuator modules. They even include two additional digital output pins and one analog input so users can further expand their capabilities.

There are several different varieties of wCK actuator modules available. The standard kits come with wCK-1111 and wCK-1108 actuators. The maximum torque is 11 kg*cm and 8 kg*cm, respectively. The wCK-1111's use a lower gear ratio for added torque and metal gears for added durability.

Another unique feature of these actuators is their additional I/O port., 2 TTL-level digital output pins and one 0-5V analog input pin are exposed. (In the transparent actuators, the digital outputs are used to control the LED's.)

RoboBuilder Software

MotionBuilder   ActionBuilder   wCK Programmer

MotionBuilder is the primary application for creating poses and motions, as well as downloading motions to the robot's internal memory. In MotionBuilder, motions are made up of a series of "scenes." Each scene consists of a set of initial servo positions, a set of destination positions, and transition speeds for each joint. Motions are made by arranging a series of scenes.

Servo positions can be set through graphical adjustment knobs, by entering numbers directly, or a scene can be created by the "pose and capture" method, wherein the robot is posed manually the position saved.
ActionBuilder gives users the ability to program more complex behaviors into their RoboBuilder robot. The user can create simple "if-then" statements to determine the robot's actions. Currently, the distance sensor, sound sensor, IR remote, and control module buttons can be used as inputs. These conditions can be used to trigger a motion, sound output, timed delay, or to jump to another program line.   This application is basically a graphical interface for all of the advanced functions of the wCK actuator modules. Created for the advanced user it is very information-dense. Tabbing through the available functions reveals just how smart and feature-rich the wCK actuator modules really are. Some of the functions available through the wCK Programmer include accessing the wCK's digital outputs and analog input; viewing the PID control response characteristics for position, speed, and torque; and manipulating individual actuator settings such as actuator ID, baud rate, speed, torque limits, and angle limits. All of the functions available, as well as the associated serial commands, are documented thoroughly in the wCK module manual.
